The average grain size of this rock is 15 mm. Name of Rock: Sample 7 (3 points): A 400-point count was conducted on a dark gray phaneritic igneous rock. The point count totals were de 400- 46 48 127 32 BF 96 241 Blotite Hornblende Quartz Alkali Feldspar Plagioclase Feldspar Total 48124. The average grain size of the phaneritic ground mass was 3 mm. Sample 6 (3 points): A 400-point count was conducted on a light-gray Intrusive rock that contains alkall feldspar phenocrysts surrounded by a phaneritic groundmass. We will have some practice later this semester identifying minerals in thin section, but for now, let's practice plotting.
